August is a strange month. It sits on the cusp of Spring, but still bears the legacy of winter. The landscape is dry and dusty and in need of a drenching, and the colours of brown are slowly turning to green, with the promise of budding flowers keeping us in suspended anticipation. The sun starts to set later and has lost its cool edge. Around this time people are saying “if it’s this warm now, what will summer be like”.
Making a shift into new territory is a common thread that runs through all our lives. Change happens in and around us and it brings with it uncertainty and a call on us to pivot unexpectedly. We say to one another “I’m in a new/ challenging/exciting season” to express monumental changes taking place in our lives. It is, like the month of August, unsettling yet hopeful. A time to be out of a comfort zone and into a time of boldness that will, ultimately, bring fruitfulness to life.
