The best shoots I’ve ever done are the ones where it feels like we’re having a conversation with a few photos on the side. Showing the best side of people happens organically when they feel calm and comfortable. Talking about their life and what they love is always a precursor to creating good captures. On my side of the camera what I see is a shift in their body language and an ease with which they smile and move. Getting people to be themselves is probably the most underrated skill of a photographer and yet, in my opinion, it is the one that yields the best results.
