A few years ago I started taking new-baby photos outdoors. I relied on the bravery of moms and the adventure seeking nature of dads to support my endeavour and I’m so grateful they did. It is hard to imagine how rewarding it can be to take a new little baby from the comfort zone of the cozy indoors to the unknown spaces of the wilderness. There are, yes, more variables to consider, such as the wind factor and ambient temperature. The light can be tricky, too, but oh so exhilarating when it hits right. Doing a session like this makes me extremely grateful that I even get the opportunity to capture the beginning stages of life unfolding. How I marvel, then, that I can also be trusted to take these captures against a backdrop of nature that is life-giving and living.
