A lot of fuss is made in the build-up to the annual matric dance. And rightly so, as it is a significant rite of passage in the life of a young person. Hair, make-up, dress, suits, shoes, the corsage and the all important question, what car to arrive in?
While most of the attention is focussed on all these aspects, it may seem that the role of family on this day is not foremost in everyone’s minds.
I would argue, though, that this day is as much a milestone to celebrate for mom and dad as any other they have witnessed over the lifespan of their child. That is why I will always champion these captures as absolute necessities, and I think exclusive attention should be given to moments like these, because they earmark a very special time in the life of a family.
